I think it's my new favorite word. Nictitating. I'm going to use it randomly, inappropriately, as much as possible today.

Words, words, words
I just had to figure out (for a character) what the clear membrane covering a fish's eye is called. Nictitating. A nictitating membrane.

I do have a favorite word, actually. It's persnickety. There was a point where, I used it SO much, it lost meaning and I thought I'd made it up. And can you believe I was actually shocked when I consulted the dictionary and it was in there? When I told my friend, Joe, about it, he laughed and said, "Of course it's a word! If it weren't, how would I know that you were a persnickety person?"
ReplyDeleteSince I'd just looked it up, I knew he was saying I was a high maintenance snob. So to that I'd said, "Thanks, Joe. Now I need a new favorite word."
Nictitating sounds nice enough. I'm loving the triple "t."
