Wa-hoo!

October 7, 2009
I got such a good question in a letter yesterday, I don’t know how to answer it.
So I’m turning to you for advice.
A boy from Florida asked, “What do you think the best last words to tell your best friend before you move away are? I’m in a military family so I think that advice would help a lot.”
Okay, my heart is breaking, and yet pounding. This kid is clearly amazing. How much did he just communicate in those 2 simple sentences? This is a writing tutorial, right there. Next time you think you need multiple metaphors to write something earth-shattering, think of those 2 sentences. Wow. Wow.
But meanwhile, how would you answer his question? I want to write back to him ASAP.
Best last words?
I’ll never forget you?
See you soon?
You’re my best friend?
???
What do you think are the best last words to tell your best friend before you move away?
Love,
Rachel Vail
A few of my books have been banned, but the weirdest was the most recent:
This is a book about a girl named Katie Honors who is "a really happy kid," who has a great life which she joyously describes in the book (accompanied by excellent illustrations by Yumi Heo, who also illustrated the first Katie Honors Book, Sometimes I'm Bombaloo)... but sometimes, instead of just being able to comfortable herself to sleep, Katie has trouble because, "the jibberwillies come." How she copes with that "jibberwillies" feeling is, according to reviewers and many parents and kids who have written to me about the book, both funny and empowering.
It saves my mood, over and over. But there are others, hidden all around my apartment... and I'm always looking for new ones. Suggestions?
It has a primer on one side and mascara on the other. So I thought, the primer is clear. It goes on with a brush that looks just like the brush my eyebrow fixer had. I am going off-label! This is a great day in the history of eyebrows!
